NBC appoints a new CEO

Johannesburg 23 May. NBC today announced the appointment of Mr Bassie Maisela as the new CEO of NBC taking over from its founder and long time CEO, Mr Max Maisela. Bassie Maisela joined NBC as an Executive Director and the Company’s Chief Operating Officer in May 2009.

Bassie Maisela has a wealth of experience in the corporate world having worked in a variety of management positions in the construction and mining industries. He joined NBC from AccelorMittal South Africa where he served as the General Manager: Human Resources. Bassie will still enjoy the support and experience of Max Maisela who will continue to lead NBC as its non-executive Chairman.

“In the short period that he served as our COO, Bassie has demonstrated tremendous leadership and vision for the company. We are all confident that together with the capable NBC team, he will lead this company to the next level.” Says Tony Mercer, Executive Director of NBC.

Bassie while relishing the challenges ahead was quick to point out, “stepping in the big shoes of the legendary Max Maisela is an honour and a challenge. It falls upon this generation of leaders in NBC to ensure that the legacy and vision of Max Maisela is accomplished and I am humbled that I have been granted an opportunity to contribute to this vision.”

Tony Mercer also announced the appointment of Mr Balan Chetty as the Chief Operating Officer of NBC succeeding Bassie Maisela. Balan Chetty has 25 years of financial management experience, the last 15 of them being in the employee benefits and financial services industry. Before joining NBC in 1999 Balan served as the General Manager of the BNPF for 5 years.  “I believe that my experience of this sector and especially the valuable time I served as NBC Chief Financial Officer will enable me to play a constructive role in supporting our new CEO and the rest of the NBC team to take NBC to new heights” Says Balan.

NBC will move to communicate these changes with all its clients and stakeholders. NBC believes that the changes will strengthen the leadership of the company and will also enhance service delivery to all of its clients.
