Corporate Social Investment

NBC takes pride in its involvement in the development of South African youth hence its enthusiastic support of a number of programmes aimed at providing opportunities for disadvantaged students. CSI initiatives that NBC supports all seek to build, motivate and create a sense of ownership within the lives of young disadvantaged students. These programmes include Student Sponsorship Programme (SSP), INSETA Learnership Programme, Soweto Expo and other corporate initiatives CSI such as ‘Take a Girl Child’ and ‘Men in the Making’ programmes.

 

 Student Sponsorship Programme

The Student Sponsorship Programme (SSP) is a non- profit trust that enables academically distinguished low income students to excel at South Africa’s top high schools. The programme aims to identify youth potential and to nurture it holistically. SSP scholars succeed in high school and many continue onto higher education achieving excellence in their studies. NBC’s has supported SSP for the past 10 years and continue to assist in broadening their network, providing office space, and encouraging NBC staff to take part by being mentors to students.  Student Learnership Programme through INSETA

Student Learnership Programme is facilitated by the Insurance Sector Education and Training (INSETA) where annually a group of matriculants who are unable to attend  universities due to lack of funds; are given an opportunity to be part of the insurance industry through training in which the programme offers. The Student Learnership Programme enables participants to gain real hands on experience in the insurance workplace by exposing learners to both theoretical and practical training. NBC has the approval from the INSETA to provide specialist hands on training towards nationally registered qualifications to participants. Most of the trainees then go on to become employees of NBC after completing the course, building their career toward being a qualified retirement fund administrators and or consultants.  Soweto Career Day & Expo

The Soweto Career Day & Expo is used as a tool to expose youth to different careers that they can pursue. The different organizations that participates bring experts in their field to give guidance, counseling and inspire youth to step forward to reach their goals.  NBC understand the importance of this platform in reaching and steering a positive change in young scholars. Take a Girl Child by Cell C

Cell C’s Take a Girl Child was initiated in 2003 and has been growing from strength to strength. The platform was created to re-address the gender gap created through years of discrimination. Participating companies organize for female high school learners; usually from disadvantaged backgrounds, to spend the day at their work place and be exposed to various careers available to them. Tracker’s Men in the Making Programme

Much like the programme ‘take a girl child’, men in the making was initiated to  uplift male children -giving them exposure to the work environment. The programme was initiated Tracker and aims to encourage society to raise responsible young men through the introduction of role models, career guidance, mentoring, guidance and support, life skills development and moral regeneration. NBC is proud to be part of the programme and  support Men in the Making in 2011 as it believes in introducing young men to real work environment, give guidance as well as play a role in influencing them having a brighter future and being successful men of South Africa.
